The lawyers at Donnelly Law Group specialise in criminal, traffic and domestic violence matters and bail applications. We regularly defend people in all sorts of cases before the Magistrates, District and Supreme Courts in Brisbane, the Gold Coast, the Sunshine Coast and regional Queensland.

Donnelly Law Group has built a proven track record and earned its position at the forefront of the industry by revolutionising the way in which criminal lawyers help clients – we personally oversee your circumstances and professionally tailor your legal strategy so that you have every advantage in the courtroom and achieve the best possible outcome.

You can have honest and confidential conversations with our lawyers about the circumstances that led to your alleged offence. We will then provide you with sensitive advice on your legal options and help you arrange any changes in your personal life that will be looked favourably upon by the courts (e.g. rehabilitation programs, driving courses, living arrangements, employment conditions, etc.).

Our expert lawyers then collaborate to analyse the evidence in your case and explore every possible avenue of legal defence. We also identify any mitigating factors and negotiate these points with police prosecutors in an attempt to have the charges downgraded or dropped altogether.

When we have finished preparing your matter, one of our specialist lawyers methodically presents your case in court. Any one piece of evidence may give rise to a legal defence and lead to your case being dismissed. But the mitigating factors we identify and the lifestyle changes we suggest act as a second line of defence to ensure the best possible outcome.

Donnelly Law Group has also implemented unique internal practices that ensure quality work, favourable outcomes and a streamlined client process. We invest heavily in cutting-edge legal software so that we can move your case forward faster. We also make the legal process as easy and stress-free as possible with consistent communication (via text, phone or email) and step-by-step guides.

A lot of people believe that they cannot afford to hire a criminal lawyer or traffic lawyer. But at Donnelly Law Group, we ensure that our legal fees are affordable so that everyone can access high-quality legal representation.

We will provide you with a fixed quote after your free initial meeting. A fixed fee ensures that you have total transparency over costs and won’t receive any surprising invoices.

If the Queensland Police want to speak to you about an offence, you only have to give them your name, date of birth and contact details. If they arrest you or serve you with a notice, you may also have to provide identifying particulars such as your fingerprints.

You have the right to remain silent. You do not have to answer any further questions from the police, make any statements or participate in a police interview.

Immediately contact Donnelly Law Group at the first opportunity. One of our lawyers or trained support staff will discuss your options and explain how to achieve the best possible outcome.

In Queensland, the police require everyone charged with an offence to attend court on the first court date (you will likely be made aware of this by a notice to appear (NTA)). There is no need to worry – our expert lawyers will appear in court with you and run your case on your behalf.

Depending on the nature of your matter, there may be multiple other court dates involved
(e.g. submissions and case conferencing). We will attend these court dates on your behalf.

Our lawyers will also appear in court with you if you are required to appear for:

  • Trial and sentencing;
  • Failing to appear in court on a set date;
  • Applying for bail or varying your conditions.

Contact Donnelly Law Group today and book your free consultation – one of our professional lawyers will advise whether you need to attend court given your particular charges and circumstances.

In Queensland, many factors are considered by the court when sentencing someone for a criminal or traffic offence. These factors include the severity of the offence, the history of the defendant, any mitigating factors and much more.

In criminal matters, penalties can include a fine, a restitution order, a recognisance order (good behaviour bond), a banning notice, a community service order, a probation order, an intensive corrections order, a suspended sentence or imprisonment. In certain matters, other penalties may be applicable (such as a Drug Diversion Program in some drug-related matters).

Similarly, penalties in traffic matters can include a fine, demerit points, disqualification from holding or obtaining a driver’s licence, a probation order or imprisonment.

However, in some matters, it may be possible for a professional lawyer to have your case dismissed or argue that no criminal conviction should be recorded. Keeping a clean criminal record helps you avoid complications when applying for jobs, travel visas, child adoption, legal aid and certain types of insurance.

Many of our clients have been able to walk away with no conviction. We are experts at identifying the legal defences and mitigating factors the court is looking for when deciding the outcome and sentence in your matter.

Contact Donnelly Law Group today and one of our professional lawyers will give you free consultation on the potential penalties given your particular charges and circumstances.
